Health Guarantee OLD

PJP Health Guarantee

This contract is created during the final purchasing process and you will receive your signed copy via email.  All PJP Puppies receive this guarantee unless stated otherwise during the purchasing process.  We can and will be selective with whom we allow to adopt PJP puppies.  Please read the following carefully and make sure you are comfortable with all conditions before applying.

Our health guarantee is very different from others. We actually detail, in black and white, what is covered and not covered. This is for your protection as well as ours AND of course the puppy. This is a legally binding contract between said buyer and seller.

Conditions of Sale: Seller guarantees that at the time of delivery/pick up, the puppy is in genetically good health. At 8 - 8.5weeks old it was just thoroughly examined by our vet and checked the pup from nose to tail. If he finds a problem it WILL be reported to you before you get the puppy! A USDA Arkansas health certificate will be provided to buyer and will be signed by our vet.

Deposits are non refundable if you back out. Seller can opt to refuse sale for the sake of the puppies best interest.

The buyer has three business days from the time of receipt of the puppy to have the puppy examined by a licensed veterinarian (we will extend through a Monday if bought on a weekend). THIS IS MANDATORY. Should your vet’s opinion differ from ours and the puppy is found to have a life threatening congenital issue, you must discuss with seller immediately. Written proof of examination must be provided to the seller. Any request to return the dog to the seller for a full refund must be made within this time period and may only be requested should the dog prove to have a life threatening genetic condition. A second opinion may be required if diagnosis is questionable. If your second opinion vet agrees with your vet, we will provide buyer with a replacement puppy or refund of purchase price after the dog is returned to seller at buyer’s expense. Replacements will be offered for similar valued puppy. NO REFUNDS given if you surrender the puppy back for non-health related reasons. This guarantee will be terminated if the dog is not examined within the allotted time. Shipping expenses are not refunded and return is the responsibility of the buyer.

At first sign of puppy distress or illness the buyer must take puppy to a licensed veterinarian AND call the seller. If the puppy has not eaten at all in the first 24 hours, call us immediately! Upon arrival all veterinary care and its associated costs are the sole and exclusive responsibility of the buyer. Stress induced illnesses such as hypoglycemia, colds or diarrhea from traveling/stress/transitioning are not covered.

Policy on Health Issues found BEFORE Departure or Pickup:

Reserving a puppy weeks or months in advance makes it difficult for us to know the health of the puppy until it is old enough to be vet checked. Even though our parent dogs are vet approved and tested, a health issue can still happen just like with human babies. After the 8 ½ week exam, we will disclose any abnormal findings at our vet. We are always honest with our buyers and wouldn’t want any surprises at your vet check after purchase. You may opt to get your deposit back at this time and refuse this puppy or apply your deposit to another future puppy. We feel that if you are paying for a puppy, then it should have good genetics. If our vet finds the following at the first vet check, these are the deductions given. Any other findings, must be discussed between buyer/seller. Any discount given on a condition, will void future claims for that condition.

Hernias: Umbilical Hernia -$100 Discount, Inguinal(Groin) -$100 each. You can have these small hernias repaired at the time of spay/neuter and they might even go way OR you can opt to have my vet repair them before you get the puppy (with no discount). Some of these can be repaired at 9 weeks if the puppy weighs over 6lb. We do prefer to wait so that the puppy doesn’t have 2 separate surgeries. The umbilical hernias are more common and are in about 5% of our pups and is caused by the mother pulling the cord too tight at birth. The inguinal hernias are not very common at all. We rarely see them and if we do, most of them go away by the time of sterilization.

Underbite: Slight $0, Moderate Underbite -$50, Severe Underbite -$100 These can be common in the mix puppies when you have a large parent in the background and a small parent. Our parents all have good bites. Cavaliers are prone to underbites because of their short muzzles and it can be passed on to the cavapoos or cavapoochons. It is just a minor cosmetic flaw, nothing to worry about. It can get better or worse as the puppy grows. WE DO NOT COVER ANY ISSUES TO DO WITH BITE AFTER THE SALE. Retained baby teeth may need to be removed. Malocclusions can be common when downsizing goldendoodles or with cavalier mix breeds. Canine Incisors may need to be filed if malocclusion causes gum irritation. ALL Dental procedures are NOT covered and are the buyer’s responsibility.

Heart Murmur: Grade Two Half Price, Grades 3 or 4 (unfit for sale). Rarely find these! Our parents are OFA Cardiac approved.

Luxating Patellas (loose kneecap more common in small breeds): Grade 1 Patellas - $100 off each, Gr2 Patellas -$250 each, Gr 3-4 Patellas (unfit for sale) Patellas can be loose at this young age and can tighten up on their own with more exercise and strength as they grow. I have found vet’s opinions on patellas and gradings can vary widely! From one to two degrees of grading. These are not common. But they still can happen because of the toy/ miniature poodles carry this and also the cavalier can carry this. If a puppy checks good at their first 2 vet checks (here and your vet) and have a luxating patella later on, this means they have injured their knee and is not covered.

Luxating patellas are covered if found at first two vet checks. If our vet finds a loose knee (luxating patella) at puppy's first vet check here prior to departure, that means it is a genetic passed on trait and you will be given the opportunity to get your deposit back or choose another puppy. Or take the pup with a discounted price. If my vet deemed the knees good and your vet says they are loose, then a third unaffiliated vet opinion will be required. Luxating patellas found AFTER the first two vet checks are NOT covered under our guarantee because they can be caused by injury. These events should not happen with a young pup with growing bones: jumping off a high surface like couch, bed or out of a vehicle, running for miles to exercise with you, excessive stairways, even running on slick floors like hardwood or tile can weaken their knees/hips and not give the support needed while growing. Our parents are Patella certified but you can still find this in the smaller boned breeds. PATELLA repair surgery is NOT COVERED.

Our genetic health guarantee covers death of a heart, liver or kidney condition. If the puppy dies of a GENETIC disease within the first year of life, the seller will provide a refund or replacement puppy within 12 months. In order to receive a replacement puppy, the buyer must have a necropsy performed at their state lab and report proving the genetic disease sent to our veterinarian.. Failure to comply will receive no compensation. Shipping is not refunded. Proof of microchip required to verify identity of said dog.

If severe HIP/Elbow DYSPLASIA be discovered during the first year of life that will require surgery; seller will refund purchase price or offer a similar replacement within 12 months (shipping is the expense of the buyer). PRE SURGERY Documentation (diagnosis and treatment medical records) must be provided from two unaffiliated veterinarians and OFA evaluation may be required. If buyer wishes to keep the dog, then half of the purchase price will be refunded or half price on a future puppy will be offered. Future bone/ joint problems caused by lack of nutrition, inadequate exercise or obesity are not covered. Proof of microchip required to verify identity of said dog. HD is more common in large breed dogs. Please follow feeding and exercising program for large breeds and do NOT overfeed. Change to adult food around 9 months.

It is imperative to your dog’s nutritional health and long-life, that we ask you to continue their Nutri Source or Life’s Abundance food or an approved high quality food with no corn or wheat and NUVET supplements for the life of the puppy. After age three we recommend you use the Nuvet Joint Plus formula to prevent joint related health issues. In order to avoid paperwork, you will need to order product from link on seller’s website. They will keep up with all purchases and we can access them if you have a claim against this health guarantee.

ANY VET BILLS That the Buyer incurs WILL NOT BE PAID BY THE SELLER, NO EXCEPTIONS. If your puppy arrives with a stress related stool issue, parasite or a cold, please provide the diagnosis from your vet to us immediately and we will provide medications to you via priority mail. NO VET BILLS WILL BE PAID. Some vets will overcharge their clients and do unneeded medications, tests and procedures! Arkansas vet care is fairly affordable, unlike NY, NJ, CA, etc. We sell our puppies at a reasonable price but cannot absorb outlandish vet charges. Our health guarantee is for hereditary, genetic faults with HEART, LIVER KIDNEYS, not for stress related issues or accidents. By signing below I understand that I am responsible for all vet care and understand we do not offer any type of reimbursement for this. The maximum PJP will cover on any claims with this guarantee is only up to the price of the puppy.

PET INSURANCE: All buyers are recommended to purchase pet health insurance.

The buyer must go online to seller’s website: www.petitjeanpuppies.com and read and follow the puppy care guide.

Puppies are sold as pets and buyer must agree to neuter the male dog by nine months or spay females by twelve months of age. Exceptions can be made if pup is undersized at that age but must be reported to seller. Any dog not sterilized by the aboves ages, will void this health guarantee in full. Any pet purchased that is not sterilized and is found to be used for breeding will be in breach of this contract and is punishable by law and you will be required to pay for breeding rights, which is usually double the puppy price. We will not risk the puppies health by giving breeding rights to inexperienced pet owners. You MUST provide copy of vet spay or neuter certificate.

**If for any reason you need to rehome your puppy, you MUST contact Petit Jean Puppies first! Puppies can NOT be surrendered to an animal shelter for any reason. Pup can not be resold without the authorization of PJP. We will help you rehome your puppy. We understand that life changing events may make this necessary.

Seller will do all that is required for up-to-date vaccinations and deworming protocols but seller can not warrant against common puppy conditions such as hypoglycemia(low blood sugar from not eating), cold/kennel cough, allergies, protozoan type parasites (i.e. coccidia or giardia) ; nor genetic conditions that are not deemed life threatening.

PARVO and VACCINATIONS: Please wait until you have had your puppy for one week before adding a new vaccination. Puppies can get parvo from other dogs or in the ground where other infected dogs have pooped. Parvo is most common in puppies 2 to 6 months old and can be fatal. Most of our puppies can leave here at 8-9wks old. This means that they have only had 2 of their required boosters. Parvo incubation period is 6-9 days. We will only guarantee it against parvo for 6 days-- IF you do not expose it to these things: other animals, public ground such as at airport, rest areas, grass, dirt, floor at vet’s office, dog parks, pet stores, gas stations etc. Assume every dog at the vet is SICK. Assume every surface at the vet is contaminated. Do not touch the other dogs and do not let strangers touch your dog! Even the people’s hands can have parvo on them! Ask if the table AND scales have been sanitized. If the scale has not been, ask for them to clean it or for a piece of newspaper.

Other exclusions to this guarantee: reactions to vaccines, over vaccinating, food or environmental allergies, reactions to flea/tick top spots treatments, any eye or eyelid problems that appear AFTER the first two vet checks. Seller does not guarantee the coat, color, size, temperament of puppy or previous AKC ancestors DNA (which is out of our control).

Full and Final Agreement

The parties agree that this writing represents the entire agreement between them and that no other representations have been made regarding the puppy described above. This guarantee is non transferrable.

This contract shall be governed by the laws of the State of Arkansas here in Conway County.
