SHORKIE (ShihTzu and Yorkshire Terrier) Low to Non Shed usually gold with black but other colors are also
common. Size: Can be teacup to mini size. True shorkies are from a ShihTzu mom and a Yorkie dad. This makes for the
shorter nose and wider round faced puppies with shorter legs. The YorkiTzu (the reverse shorkie) is still from a 50/50 mix
but has the yorkie mom and shihtzu dad. They will look more like yorkies and be colored more like yorkies. Either way is
still called a shorkie. I use the imperial smaller shihtzu and a yorkie around 5 lbs. This makes for a 6-8 lb adult shorkie.
There are some huge shihtzus out there, 16 lbs plus, so shorkies can be much larger also. I am not saying that smaller is
better, that is just what is requested the most. Most Shorkies have down ears, except the teacup or tiny ones who might
have up ears! We always leave the tails on the shorkies here, why cut a wagging tail!? They are very laid back as adults
and usually love everyone if socialized well as a puppy. They are great family dogs and are known to be good with children!
Shorkies will go thru the puppy "uglies" with their coats at about 16 wks till they shed their puppy coat and their adult coat
comes in they will look a bit scraggly (so don't be concerned). It is common for any shihtzu mix to have an underbite and this
is not a health problem, just a cosmetic problem. Under bites are common. When you mix a breed with a snub nose to a
longer nosed breed, you are just going to have some under bites. It isn't anything to be concerned with, no correction or
braces needed!! Shorkies are very affectionate and would love to have a playmate. Since yorkies are prone to luxating
patellas this is something that will appear some in this mix but we are very careful when choosing our yorkies for breeding,
but it still can appear. Keep ear hairs pulled and moisture out of ears, they are also prone to ear infections. You also need
to keep tabs on their plaque buildup to prevent dental disease. I have a female shorkie named SHORTY, I LOVE my baby!!
Estimated Lifespan with high quality diet and vet care: 13-15 years+
MALTICHON (Maltese and Bichon Frise) Non Shed are always white (some buff acceptable) Size: Can be tiny toy
to toy size. Super laid back loving and intelligent dogs! I love the laid back nature of the maltichons. These are very similar
to maltipoos but the bichon instead of the poodle in the mix makes for a shorter legged puppy with better knees and teeth.
Plus Maltichons are always white (with some cream markings). Maltichons are more laid back than Maltipoos and are less
likely to bond with only one person. Maltichons are very affectionate and love their families and do well with children.
Maltichons must be brushed often to avoid matted coat. Short puppy cut is recommended for easy maintenance. Grooming
is required and needed every 6-8 weeks. Keep ear hairs pulled and moisture out of ears, they are also prone to ear
infections. Tear staining can be a problem during teething or allergy season. Blot the area that is wet once per day with a
kleenex. The tear is not what causes the stain, it's bacteria that grows in the wet environment that causes the orange stain.
There are also a lot of products that claim to remove tear stains from the coat around the eyes, but I have not had much
success with this. The easiest way to keep them looking clean and fresh is to carefully use curved grooming scissors under
the eye and trim out the effected stained hairs. This is my chosen method, but there is a product on the market called Angel
Eyes that guarantees to work! It is sprinkled on their food daily and will keep their eyes clean and clear! Estimated Life
span with quality diet and vet care: 13-15 years.
SHIHPOO (ShihTzu and Poodle) Low to Non Shed Can be any coloration, usually parti colored (evenly two colored)
Size: can be teacup to toy size. These are just fun loving very intelligent dogs. They are good with children and other dogs.
Shihpoos can be very social and love the company of other dogs. They are low to non shed and have very soft fluffy wavy
to curly coats. One of the things I love in a shihpoo is the short legs. So we breed for that specifically by using a poodle
with shorter legs (our signature Valley Poodles!) They will have a short to medium length nose and a round face and down
ears. Some shihpoos look like puppies their entire life! They are common to have an underbite. They can be high energy
and need lots of free play outside in a safe zone (fence or kenneled area) and like others, need lots of toys. They generally
calm down as an adult and become more laid back. Because of the poodle, some shihpoos can have luxating patellas. We
try to breed this out of our bloodlines, rarely can still can appear. This breed will require regular professional grooming. A
puppy cut is preferred and easier for you to maintain in between groomings. I love the teddy bear face groom with short
body cut and a long tail. Keep ear hairs pulled and moisture out of ears, they are also prone to ear infections. Watch for
dental disease, because poodles are prone to plaque. Estimated Lifespan with high quality diet and vet care: 12-15 years
YORKIPOO (Yorkshire Terrier and Poodle) Low to Non Shed Usually Black and Tan but can be any color! Size: can
be teacup to toy size. I have learned some folks just don't like the straight sometimes stringy and oily looking yorkie coats.
Some of the finer coated yorkies after just one day can look like they need a bath. When we mix 50% poodle with the
yorkie, it usually has a fluffier coat that looks clean longer. Poodles are very intelligent too, so this helps with the training
issues of the regular yorkie. These dogs are very hypoallergenic (or as much as a dog can be!). They are non shedding as
adults. They are prone to luxating patellas, and dental disease. Both breeds are very playful and energetic, so they need a
family with lots of action and lots of hands that can give attention. They do wonderful with obedience training and learn very
quickly wanting to please their owners. Yorkipoos can be almost any coloration and can be from either a yorkie mom or a
poodle mom. Most have a slight wave to a curly coat that is soft and fluffy. A puppy cut is the easiest groom. It is a shorter
body cut that is easy to maintain and brush. This breed does require regular grooming and at least twice a week brushing to
keep mats away. Don't forget the annual dental cleanings required for this breed!!! If socialized good with other people and
dogs as a puppy, this breed usually loves everyone. If not socialized, they can become overly protective of their family
around strangers. I read that a puppy must meet 100 people before he/she is one year old to be good and socialized.
Yorkipoos can be vocal dogs and a playmate might help this when left alone. Keep a close eye on their ears. They can be
prone to ear infections. You need to keep the moisture out of the ears during bath and also have the ear hairs pulled (this is
something your groomer will do) to avoid infection. Estimated Lifespan with high quality diet and vet care: 15-17 years.
MORKIES (Maltese and Yorkie) Non Shed Usually black and cream but can be other colors. Size: Teacup to Toy
Size. Very lively and fun dogs. They do have a high maintenance coat that requires regular grooming and daily brushing.
Born black and cream mostly, these will turn silver and lighten up to a beautiful shimmery silky coat, much like human hair.
They are prone to ear infections and dental disease and also luxating patellas. They are very hypoallergenic and great for
people with allergies. They do NOT shed as an adult. They take on traits from both parent breeds and are an all around
good family dog and great with children! They do wonderful with obedience training and learn very quickly wanting to please
their owners. Most have a slight wave to a curly coat that is soft and fluffy. A puppy cut is the easiest groom. It is a
shorter body cut that is easy to maintain and brush. This breed does require regular grooming and at least twice a week
brushing to keep mats away. Don't forget the annual dental cleanings required for this breed!!! If socialized good with other
people and dogs as a puppy, this breed usually loves everyone. If not socialized, they can become overly protective of their
family around strangers. I read that a puppy must meet 100 people before he/she is one year old to be good and
socialized. Morkies can be vocal dogs and a playmate might help this when left alone. Keep a close eye on their ears.
They can be prone to ear infections. You need to keep the moisture out of the ears during bath and also have the ear hairs
pulled (this is something your groomer will do) to avoid infection. Estimated Lifespan with high quality diet and vet care:
12-15 years.
MALTIPOO (Maltese and Poodle) Non Shed, Can be any color. Size: Teacup to toy.
Maltipoos are great for people with allergies and are very loving intelligent dogs and are easy to train. If not socialized
correctly they can bond to one person and snip at children if the child is too rough or bothersome. They can be good with
children, but as with all puppies, adult supervision is required with young children. They do wonderful with obedience training
and learn very quickly wanting to please their owners. Maltipoos can be almost any coloration and can be from either a
maltese mom or a poodle mom. Most have a slight wave to a curly coat that is soft and fluffy. A puppy cut is the easiest
groom. It is a shorter body cut that is easy to maintain and brush. This breed does require regular grooming and at least
twice a week brushing to keep mats away. For White or cream color maltipoos, we recommend the product called Angel
Eyes to help keep the tear staining to a minimum. You just sprinkle on their food and it works great. Don't forget the annual
dental cleanings required for this breed!!! If socialized good with other people and dogs as a puppy, this breed usually loves
everyone. If not socialized, they can become overly protective of their family around strangers. I read that a puppy must

moisture out of the ears during bath and also have the ear hairs pulled (this is something your groomer will do) to avoid
infection. Estimated Lifespan with high quality diet and vet care: 13-15 years.
MALTI-TZU (Maltese and ShihTzu) Non Shed, Can be any color. Size: Teacup to toy.
Maltitzus are very fun loving and sweet dogs. They usually love everyone and socialize easily. They love to play but are
also lap babies. They are intelligent and are not known to be hyper or aggressive. Their coat will be soft and fluffy and will
require pretty demanding work on your part with regular brushing and grooming. Again, a puppy cut will be easier on you
and the dog for maintenance. If white around the face and eyes, we recommend Angel Eyes tear stain removal product you
sprinkle on their food. This will get rid of the stains and we find it works great! They have full fluffy tails. Keep a close eye
on their ears. They can be prone to ear infections. You need to keep the moisture out of the ears during bath and also
have the ear hairs pulled (this is something your groomer will do) to avoid infection. This breed can be prone to having an
underbite because of mixing a long nosed breed with a short nosed breed, so don't be alarmed, this is just cosmetic and
actually under bites in the shihtzu breed are acceptable. Estimated Lifespan with high quality diet and vet care: 12-18 years.
SCHNOODLE (Schnauzer and Poodle) Non Shed, Can be any color, Toy and Miniature Size
Schnoodles are great with children and are very intelligent fun loving dogs. They love agility and are very easy to train. They
are so smart, they will trick and train their owners! They do well with agility and love to please their owners and do well with
obedience training. They love to be near their owners and will always be at your side. They usually have a soft wavy to
curly coat, some can have a wirey coat. Regular grooming is required and a puppy cut is the easiest to maintain. Depending
on the amount of curl in the coat, this will determine the most suitable groom. Their tails are docked, dewclaws removed but
ears left natural. Don't forget the annual dental cleanings required for this breed!!! If socialized good with other people and
dogs as a puppy, this breed usually loves everyone. But if not socialized, they can become overly protective of their family
around strangers. Schnoodles can be vocal dogs and a playmate might help this when left alone. Keep a close eye on their
ears. They can be prone to ear infections. You need to keep the moisture out of the ears during bath and also have the ear
hairs pulled (this is something your groomer will do) to avoid infection. Estimated Lifespan with high quality diet and vet
care: 12-16 years.
SHICHON (ShihTzu and Bichon Frise) Pronounced Sheeshon--and also called Teddy Bears. Non Shed, Can be any
color, Toy and Miniature Size. SHIHCHON are known for their laid back nature and super soft teddy bear like coats. They
will have a slight wave to a curl to their coat. They have a medium length muzzle and long ears and a long fluffy tail. They
are great with children and usually love everyone. They have a very playful teasing nature and enjoy challenging training.
They are people dogs and just love to be near you! Regular grooming is required and a puppy cut is the easiest to maintain.
Depending on the amount of curl in the coat, this will determine the most suitable groom. This breed usually have healthy
teeth but still need to be checked annually. If socialized good with other people and dogs as a puppy, this breed usually
loves everyone. Keep a close eye on their ears. They can be prone to ear infections. You need to keep the moisture out
of the ears during bath and also have the ear hairs pulled (this is something your groomer will do) to avoid infection.
Estimated Lifespan with high quality diet and vet care: 12-14 years.
CAVACHON (pronounced kavashon) King Charles Cavalier Spaniel and Bichon Frise Mix Puppies are a wonderful
mix of royalty! The friendliness of the cavalier and the coat and intelligence of the bichons make this a wonderful non to low
shedding family companion. They are great with children and are good with people with mild allergies. They will require
regular grooming and will have a wavy long fluffy coat. They have endearing eyes and beautiful faces that will steal your
heart! They are intelligent and easy to train. They are not know to be yappers or hyper. They can adapt to apartment living
and enjoy outdoor play as well as being a lap baby. Cavachons are very clean dogs and do not produce much doggie odor.
Keep a close eye on their ears for ear infections as both breeds are prone to this. Some cavaliers are prone to heart
disease and loose knees (luxating patellas) and some bichons are prone to eye disease. We carefully select our parent
dogs with the least amount of genetic disease possible. Estimated lifespan with quality diet and vet care 10-13 years.

And remember, I can always help you with this choice after I learn more about you and your family.
We only breed the first cross which is called an F1 hybrid (which is a mix of two different purebred dogs). They are considered the most healthy of the
crosses. Research shows that crossing two purebred dogs will rule out a lot of the genetic disease that each breed is prone to. You don't just put any
two breeds together, you must research and plan and choose carefully just as you would for a purebred litter. We have found what is desirable and
what isn't and we have figured out what works best for each mix and are always improving our bloodlines to bring you the best possible puppy!
These are descriptions of the mixed puppies based on my past experience. Of course they are my opinions and within each mix breed the puppies can
take more after one parent breed than the other. We must also remember that each dog is different and has their own unique personality. The way a
probably the most important thing that you need to keep in mind while raising your puppy. I have heard to be a nice social adult, a puppy must meet 100
strangers before he/she is one year old!
If you own one of these mixes and would like to comment on my breed descriptions, please do so by leaving feedback about it on my review page or
email me! I would love to hear about the personality of your designer canine! Pictures are all copyrighted, and are property of Petit Jean Puppies.
