| The Bichon Frise is an intelligent dog that loves the challenge of training. The are very loving and can be calm lap dogs, although I have also seen some more hyper and nervous. This dog is intelligent and can make training easy. It also adapts to any activity level and does not require a lot of exersizing. Physical Attributes: They generally are white with some having beige or apricot color on ears and their fur is very curly and soft. Bichons are non-shedding and are the number one dog recommended for people with allergies. They produce no dander or odor. They usually weigh 10-15 pounds with legs short for their proportion. The eyes of this breed are very large and endearing. They most resemble a little lamb and are very cuddly and so very soft. The softness of the freshly groomed coat is irresistible. GROOMING: This breed does require intense regularly scheduled grooming. They are usually groomed in a big round head with almost invisible ears and column legs and puffy body and large fluffy tail. This breed is prone to eye staining and may require between grooming touch ups around the eyes. There are a few tricks you can learn to help out with the eye stains. Angel Eyes is a pill that you give daily to prevent it. I have also heard that people give distilled water instead of tap water. Ask to see the parents, if they have tear stains, then more than likely the pups will too. Also ask your groomer to fluff dry your bichon and it will have more body to the coat. Plan on grooming at least every 8-10 weeks. HISTORY: The Bichon Frise is of Mediterranean ancestry. His oldest ancestor is the Barbet, or Water Spaniel, from which the name Barbichon came, later shortened to Bichon. Also descended from the Barbet are the Caniche, or Poodle, and the Maltese. They have certain similarities because of their common ancestry, but each long ago became a separate breed. Estimated life span: 10-15 years |
